Got Goats? In summers of 2005, 2006 and 2007, William Kenny Associates initiated a study to document the effects of controlling invasive plant species via goat grazing. Three alpine goats were restricted to a 40’ by 40’-grazing area for 14 days. A total of three areas were grazed. They included wetland and upland soils. Invasive plant species included Japanese knotweed, Japanese wisteria, mugwort, Japanese honeysuckle, garlic mustard, and multiflora rose. By the 14th day, each area was substantially grazed. Japanese knotweed was a favorite!
