Form and function is an inspiration for this website and the services WKA provides. As such, the Fibonacci series was employed for much of this site’s structure and patterns. Leonardo Pisano Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician in the 12th and 13th centuries. He made famous the numerical sequence where each number is the sum of two proceeding numbers (i.e., 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, …). This sequence has proved extremely fruitful and appears in many different areas of mathematics, science, and art. In nature, the sequence has been found in vegetative structural growth patterns and animal population growth patterns. The sequence can be used to create a visual spiral of related forms that can be found in nature and art (see adjacent images). The spiral is found in the flowers of many plants. The Golden Ratio or Section is made by dividing adjacent numbers in the sequence. Many believe that shapes and structures with dimensions derived from the Golden Section are aesthetically very pleasing, if not the most pleasing. The Golden Section dimensions can be found in objects of all kinds and sizes ranging from the most mundane and simplest (e.g., a common credit card) to the most sophisticated and renowned (e.g., Greek Parthenon).
